As I reflect on 2023, I am full of gratitude and excited to share our 2023 Sustainability Consulting Impact with you! What began as an idea to somehow marry my passion for fly fishing and sustainability while I was living in Jackson Hole, WY back in 2009 has become a reality. I am grateful to be living my dream, and thankful for all of our clients, who are the change makers who are transforming your businesses from a take, make, waste business model, to an environmentally restorative and socially just business model.
I am also proud to donate at least 1% of Emerger Strategies’ annual sales to environmental nonprofits as a 1% for the Planet member. The Sustainability Institute is working to make Charleston a more sustainable, climate resilient and equitable for generations to come. Charleston Waterkeeper is keeping our waterways clean with countless litter sweeps and restoring our oyster population by building new reefs from recycled oyster shells, and Bonefish & Tarpon Trust is bringing science to the fight to protect the flats species we love. I am also thrilled that Emerger Strategies is now a service provider member of The Change Climate Project, and is also Climate Neutral Certified because climate change is the single greatest threats to the planet, and we are in business to protect what we love!
Our 2023 Sustainability Consulting Impact
Our mission is to measure and improve our clients sustainability performance, all while boosting profits, which is why I am excited to share our 2023 Sustainability Consulting Impact with you! We saved our clients well over $100,000 by acting as their outsourced sustainability team, reduced our clients operational costs by $80,000 through energy efficiency and solar power, and significantly increasing our client’s customer loyalty by 58% in the case of RepYourWater. We were able to achieve these bottom line results through our tailored sustainability strategies that deliver measurable results for our clients.

Sustainability Management Services Impact
When we bring on a new client, we conduct a Sustainability Assessment (SA) that enables an organization to assess its progress toward causing no harm to people and the environment, as well as positive impacts on people and the environment. The Sustainability Assessment expresses company sustainability performance as scores on science-based goals for 18 core environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, and on contributions to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We then use the Assessment to drive our strategy and also provide data for the Sustainability Report. After working with Emerger Strategies for 12 months, our clients saw a 116% increase in sustainability performance!
These numbers are exactly what we mean, when we say that we measure and improve your sustainability performance. Examples of actions are clients took to improve their sustainability are: measuring the waste generated in their operations, calculating their Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, setting science-based targets, paying employees a living wage, and ensuring that equity-seeking populations are represented in senior management. These are just a few examples, but we are proud to work with our clients to measure and improve their sustainability performance.
Carbon Management Services Impact
You can’t manage what you are not measuring, which is why calculating your company’s carbon footprint is one of the best actions your company can take in understanding your environmental impact. By executing our carbon management strategies, organizations can effectively measure, monitor, and reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to the fight against climate change. Additionally, we are proud to be a member of Climate Neutral’s Service Provider Network for those companies seeking certification.
We also helped all of our clients create Climate Action Plans, which includes setting science-based reduction targets, as well as a reduction plan to that they are actively working to not only measure their carbon footprint, but actually reduce their footprint.
Compliance & Certification Management Services Impact
We helped clients like Blue Sky submit measure their carbon footprint, submit their carbon footprint through the Carbon Disclosure Project, set science-based targets through Science-Based Target initiative, and submit data for Walmart Sustainability Compliance, Target Sustainability Compliance as well as clients like Crazy Creek submit sustainability related information through REI Product Impact Standards. Finally, we are proud to have helped our clients like RepYourWater achieve Climate Neutral Certification, as well as Zero Waste operations.
