I love a good book, especially one’s that incorporate fly fishing into them, so I decided I would put together a list of top 4 favorite fly fishing books (in no particular order):
- Body of Water – Chris Dombrowski: I read this book over the summer and it is truly inspired writing. It not only is great nonfiction and tells the history of bonefishing in the Bahamas, but tells it through the eyes of legendary Bahamian guide, David Pinder. A wonderful read!
- The Longest Silence – Thomas McGuane: The Longest Silence is a collection of 33 essays from Tom Mcguane is not only a phenomenal writer, but The Longest Silence is simply a great escape to locations such as the Keys, Mexico and Montana and has stories of tarpon, bonefish and trout.
- The River Why – David James Duncan: If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping and heading to a cabin in the woods, then this one is for you. David James Duncan’s The River Why is the story of Gus Orviston and his obsession with steelhead and discovers love and also the importance of environmental conservation as he finds himself.
- Death, Taxes and Leaky Waders – John Gierach: I discovered John Gierach when I was first getting into fly fishing and living in Colorado and Wyoming. Death, Taxes and Leaky Waders is a collection of Gierach’s best essays from several of his books. It’s one of my favorites to pick up before heading out for a trout trip and his writing is equally as funny as it is educational.
I’d love to hear about some of your favorite books on fly fishing, so please comment below with some recommended reading!
Cheers and Tight Lines,
Rick
