The Sustainable Angler Podcast Wins the Outdoor Media Climate Challenge

Rick Crawford

I am truly humbled and grateful to announce that The Sustainable Angler Podcast: Patagonia Founder Yvon Chouinard won the Grand Prize of the Outdoor Climate Media Challenge that was put on by Conservation Hawks, and “was facilitated by the Outdoor Writers Association of America.  The contest was designed to recognize and reward media members who shared an accurate, compelling climate message with hunters & anglers in the Southeastern U.S.”

The intent of The Sustainable Angler Podcast is to educate and create more awareness about environmental threats to our fisheries, such as: Population, Policy and Pollution, or the “3 P’s.” For example, Population is a threat to fisheries due to overfishing. Policy is a threat to our fisheries through poor fisheries management, climate change and public lands policy. The final “P” is Pollution, and the obvious threat is plastic pollution, but the greatest threat our fisheries face today is pollution in the form of greenhouse gas emissions that are emitted from burning fossil fuels and causing our current climate crisis.

I’d like to sincerely thank Conservation Hawks and OWAA for selecting The Sustainable Angler as the Grand Prize winner of the Outdoor Media Climate Challenge. I’d also like to thank Chris Gaggia for connecting me and Yvon, and special thanks to Yvon for taking the time to do an interview for The Sustainable Angler!

If you’d like to hear more episodes of The Sustainable Angler Podcasts, you can find them on iTunes, Spotify, Souncloud and Stitcher, and please don’t forget to follow, like and share so that we can continue to educate and create more awareness about the impact that climate change is having on our fisheries and our planet!
