I have been giving quite a bit of thought about the future of our planet lately, especially since I have a newborn baby girl. I want her to be able to camp under the big sky of Montana along the cool waters of the Madison River on a fly fishing adventure. I want to teach her how to tell the difference between a hard bottom flat and pluff mud flat paddling through the green spartina grass of the Lowcountry while looking for tailing redfish. I want her to fall in love with our big blue planet the way that I have so that she will want to protect it.
In order to protect the planet for future generations, I believe, requires having a vision for the future we want to create. My vision includes living on a planet with abundant fish and wildlife, healthy rivers and oceans, and thriving forests. One of the way that I try to achieve my vision is by guiding businesses on their sustainability journey by discovering innovative solutions to enhance their business performance while improving the environmental performance of their operations and products.
Another way that I try to achieve my vision is by using my blog and podcast, The Sustainable Angler, to educate and create more awareness about environmental threats to our planet and fisheries. However, I try to stay away from “doomsday” rhetoric and tend to focus on the people and companies who are working to solve environmental problem and share their success stories. I believe we must envision the world we want to live in, so let’s begin…
My 2019 New Year’s Resolution is to…”Imagine a Sustainable Planet!”
