The Sustainable Angler Podcast: Adventure Journalist, Riverhorse Nakadate

Posted on December 21, 2018

Rick Crawford

I first learned of Riverhorse Nakadate through his writing in The FlyFish Journal and then a bit more from my friend Paul Puckett who had Riverhorse as a guest on his podcast, The Barely Live Sessions. If you don’t know him for his writing talent, Riverhorse is a kind, humble and passionate individual who loves fly fishing and uses his gift to shed light on environmental threats to our fisheries to protect what he loves, as Riverhorse would say, “good ole’ Mother Earth.”

I think the operative word with Riverhorse is “love” which is so apparent in his writing, but also in talking with him, you know he genuinely loves getting outside and relishes the outdoors. Fly fishing just happens to be the vehicle that takes him there, and we all get to benefit as he has a rare talent for expressing what we, as anglers, feel in a completely unique voice. If you are unfamiliar with Riverhorse’s work, pick up a copy of The FlyFish Journal, and you can also get a glimpse with his latest film project, Love & Water.

In this episode of The Sustainable Angler I interview writer, adventure journalist and fly angler, Riverhorse Nakadate. He is not only an inspiring writer, but is also using his writing to educate and create more awareness about environmental threats to our fisheries such mining in Boundary Waters, climate change and more. Riverhorse writes for The FlyFish Journal and has also recently teamed up with Tony Czech to create some new films, which we discuss.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Riverhorse for all he is doing to protect what we love, and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to interview him and I hope you enjoy!
