New Research: Products with Sustainability Labels Sell Better

Posted on July 14, 2025

Consumer demand for sustainability has never been higher—especially among anglers and outdoor recreation enthusiasts who see firsthand the impacts of climate change and pollution on the natural places they love. Today’s outdoor consumers are more aware, values-driven, and intentional with their purchasing decisions. They’re seeking out brands that not only make quality gear but also take responsibility for their environmental and social impacts. This growing expectation has created a significant opportunity for brands to stand out through credible sustainability performance and storytelling.

But don’t take my word for it. There’s is new research which included a “comprehensive analysis of Amazon sales data reveals that sustainability labels like “Climate Pledge Friendly” increase consumer demand by 13–14% for up to eight weeks after adoption. This sales boost is not driven by pricing or advertising, nor by improved search rankings or filter usage. Instead, consumers engage in passive search—opting for labeled products when given the choice, even if they’re not actively looking for sustainable options. Labels that highlight specific features, such as carbon neutrality or reduced harmful ingredients, are especially effective. For brands and platforms, this underscores the commercial value of clear, credible sustainability messaging.” Read the entire article on Harvard Business Review.

At Emerger Strategies, we help fishing and outdoor brands meet this demand by simplifying sustainability and making it a strategic advantage. Our work goes beyond compliance—we help brands measure and improve their environmental performance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and earn third-party certifications like The Climate Label, which signal real accountability to their customers. But we don’t stop there. We also help brands tell authentic, data-backed sustainability stories that build trust and deepen customer loyalty. The result? Our clients not only protect the planet but also strengthen their reputations, grow brand value, and see measurable increases in sales.
