As sustainability and regulatory requirements evolve across the U.S., Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging is reshaping how brands manage packaging waste. With 2025 deadlines fast approaching in states like California, Colorado, Oregon, and beyond, it’s essential for brands—especially those in the fishing, outdoor, and consumer goods industries—to prepare now.
At Emerger Strategies, we simplify the EPR process, helping brands navigate complex requirements, ensure compliance, and unlock the business benefits of sustainable packaging.
What Is EPR for Packaging?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws shift the responsibility of managing packaging waste from governments and taxpayers to the producers (brands) themselves. Under these laws, brands must:
✅ Register with state agencies or Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), such as Circular Action Alliance
✅ Collect and report detailed packaging data
✅ Pay eco-modulated fees that incentivize sustainable design
✅ Meet state-specific deadlines and requirements
The goal? To reduce waste, improve recycling rates, and encourage more sustainable packaging solutions.
