3 YouTube Channels for Escapism During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Posted on April 14, 2020

Rick Crawford

The coronavirus pandemic continues do its thing, and while I am keeping the vibes positive at my house, I still need a dose of escapism as the days are turning in to weeks and I try to remember what day it is. So, here are a few YouTube Channels that I am a fan of that I thought you might also enjoy if you love to travel and will hopefully inspire you to travel, enjoy the outdoors and protect the planet when this whole thing is over….Enjoy!

Sailing La Vagabond

First up, is Sailing La Vagabond. I have been a subscriber of this channel for a few years now, and if you have never seen it before, I highly recommend starting from the beginning and watching all the way through. So here’s the synopsis: A guy from Australia (Riley) saves his money and buys a sailboat, which is located in Europe. While there, he meets a girl (Elayna) and asks her to sail around the world with him. The catch is they are both beginners at sailing, and Elayna starts filming the show and posting the videos up on YouTube and now they have over 1 million subscribers! They now have a baby boy joining them on their adventure and recently sailed the climate activist Greta Thunberg and her father across the Atlantic Ocean so that she would have a smaller carbon footprint than flying. Anyways, they literally sail around the world and it’s a fantastic way to escape! Below is Episode 1…

Koa Rothman: This is Livin

Who doesn’t want to escape to Hawaii and live the life of a surfer? This is Livin is another one of my favorite YouTube channels and it follows pro surfer, Koa Rothman as he chases swells all over the world like Tahiti, Bali and his home break, the North Shore of Hawaii. He also includes some workout videos that I have been doing during my quarantine that are legit (at least for me anyways). Check out Episode 1 below:

Follow Koa on Instagram @koarothman and don’t forget to subscribe to his YouTube Channel for some tropical escapism and killer surfing!

Apparent Winds

Although Apparent Winds just started their YouTube channel I have been aware of their journey for a few months as they are based out of Charleston, SC. Apparent Winds is Zach Bjur and Tripp Brower and their plan is to circumnavigate the planet and make a documentary on the impact of climate change at different locations around the globe. Below is the description from their YouTube Channel:

“We are Zach Bjur and Tripp Brower and our journey is Apparent Winds. We departed Charleston, SC in November of 2019 for a two year circumnavigation of the globe. Together with film maker Grey Gowder we have made it our mission to visit as many Mission Blue Hope Spots as we can to meet with their Champions and learn from them, with the ultimate goal of establishing a Hope Spot on South Carolina’s coast. Follow our adventure here and stay tuned for the feature film, Sea Change, that will be released after our journey’s completion.“

We will definitely continue to follow and here’s Episode 1:

Follow them on Instragram: @apparentwinds and don’t forget to Subscribe to their YouTube Channel for the latest epidsode!

I hope you stay safe, healthy and positive out there and that when this thing is over that we all get outdoors with a new appreciation and respect for our beautiful planet.
