Sustainability Compliance for Fishing & Outdoor Brands

2021 in Review…Thank You!

Posted on December 28, 2021

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and is almost gone, but I like to take this opportunity every year to reflect on all that I am grateful for. First and foremost, 2021 was a special year because my son was born in January. I am so grateful for my family, and I can’t wait to get a fly rod in both my kids hands, as well as surfboards underneath their feet! Thank you to all of our family and friends for your continued support. 2021 was also a special year for Emerger Strategies as we brought on Brooks Scott to head up our Business Development and he has done an incredible job of bringing on a variety of clients and helping to grow the Fly Fishing Climate Alliance, so thank you! And of course we have our customers to thank for putting their trust in Emerger Strategies for our sustainability services. Thank you for your business. Finally, I am proud to say that we are measuring the success of our business by how much we can give back, and how many companies we can help to measure and improve their sustainability performance. Below are some highlights from 2021:

  • As always, we will be donating1% of our annual sales to environmental nonprofits like The Sustainability Institute through 1% for the Planet.
  • We will continue planting 10 trees for every client as a way to give more than we take through our partnership with One Tree Planted.
  • We conducted multiple Sustainability Assessments that helped companies to measure and create sustainability baselines.
  • We calculated several companies Scope1, 2 & 3 carbon footprints.
  • We worked with RepYourWater to achieve and maintain their Zero Waste to Landfill Operations.
  • We helped 12 companies achieve Carbon Neutrality.
  • I was fortunate to have played a small part in the Patagonia film DROP, which was produced by Hilary Hutcheson and directed by Liam Gallagher. We also helped the DROP achieve carbon neutrality!
  • We released 8 episode of The Sustainable Angler podcast, which hopefully continues to educate and inspire by interviewing guests who are part of the climate solution.
  • We grew the Fly Fishing Climate Alliance from 16 members to 50 members, and we are still growing! Our goal for 2022 is to have 50 Carbon Neutral Guides & 50 Fly Shops…one in every state!

As we look to 2022 and beyond, I hope to continue protecting what I love, not only for myself but even more importantly for my children by helping as many businesses as possible measure and improve their sustainability performance. The most impactful thing any business can do right now is to measure and reduce its carbon footprint to avoid the catastrophic effects of climate change. There is so much worth saving by addressing climate change, so if your company is interested in learning more about how we can help you achieve your sustainability goals, please feel free to reach me directly at: rcrawford@emergerstrategies.com

Stay tuned for some exciting news, and wishing each of your a healthy, happy and prosperous 2022.

Protect what you love,

Rick
